History
The Polytechnic of East London was founded as a postsecondary educational institution in 1989. It was granted the status of University of East London (UEL) in 1992.
Stratford University Square, another new campus, was established in September 2013. Academic sponsorship is provided to UEL by Hackney University Technical College, the first university technical college in London.
